Abstract:
VOMOJI is an acronym for Vocabulary Learning Through Emoji. We discovered that vocabulary learning using Emojis is fun and able to expand the students' creative thinking. With more new Emojis being developed to meet the demand of the social media users, Emojis will surely entice learners young and old into learning. Another interesting fact is that, Emojis can also be clustered using CEFR. This makes learning vocabulary from lower to higher levels possible. To this end, an emoji-based vocabulary activity book will be developed starting with VOMOJI Activity Book (Level A1 – A2) As educators, we always aims at teaching our ESL students to communicate or use English with proper grammar. We overlook the fact that one of the main reasons why our ESL learners are not doing well in applying the language is because they do not have enough or the right vocabulary to use. Therefore, before we start teaching them about grammar, we first need to make them learn as many words possible. "Without grammar, very little can be conveyed, without vocabulary, nothing can be conveyed." Wilkins (1972). Making teaching and learning process fun and interesting. We choose EMOJIS - research indicates that visual cues help us to better retrieve and remember information.
