Abstract:
Every Muslim is compulsory to commit to performing zakat, and zakat is one of the five main pillars of Islam. It has been stated by 30 times in the Qur’an (al-Qaradhawi, 2000). Further, its purpose is to redistribute the wealth of the society towards the poor by preparing a certain amount of specific wealth from the capable person for the advantage of those who are qualified to receive zakat. In Malaysia, the Centre for Zakat Management is responsible for collecting and distributing zakat funds. Zakat should be distributed to the needy, known as asnaf, as mention in al-Quran surah At-Taubah verse 60
