Abstract:
The museum plays a role in education to enable students to connect directly with the collection and to create student-centred of teaching and learning sessions as well as to provide fun during learning. The purpose of this study was to explore teachers’ views on history learning in museums and identify students’ perceptions of History learning activities through museum visits. This study was conducted on form four students and History teachers in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. A total of 205 students and three History teachers were selected based on specific characteristics. This study used questionnaire for students and interviews conducted with History teachers. The findings show that historical learning in the museum provides fun, engages students and enhances students’ understanding and interest in history. Among the activities at the museum are completing work with friends, doing exploratory research activities and analyse collections and use i-think maps while copying notes. Therefore, a variety of student-centred learning activities will encourage students’ critical and creative thinking. Teachers need to be smart in identifying students’ needs and interests to ensure that the methods used are appropriate for the students.
