Abstract:
The causes and effects of conflict within organizations and the individual effects of emotional intelligence and organizational culture on conflict management strategies are subjects of extensive research. However, little is known about the interaction between emotional intelligence and organizational culture about conflict management strategies in tertiary institutions, specifically in Kumasi, Ghana. This study adds to the ongoing discussion on conflict management using three public tertiary universities of Ghana. A total of 500 questionnaires were issued, and 321 were suitable for data analysis. The interactions between the main variables were established using the hierarchical multiple regression method. The study found that employees at the chosen institutions had reasonable levels of emotional intelligence, organizational culture, and conflict management techniques. The results proved that organizational culture positively influences emotional intelligence and conflict management with no moderating effect on the relationship between emotional intelligence and conflict management. Our findings provided recommendations for the management of the chosen institutions and direction for supplementary research.
