It has been performed for the past several decades at Felda Kemahang 3 Tanah Merah, Kelantan. Although relatively new as compared to other performances such as makyong and wayang kulit, rebana mangkuk has become an important art form and a symbol of identity for this village. The uniqueness of this art is not only from the aspect of performance but also in the making of its instrument, namely the rebana mangkuk itself. Based on interviews and observations, thisarticle is an organological study on the process of making rebana mangkuk that can only be found in Tanah Merah, Kelantan. The results of the study found that making a rebana mangkuk, as a single-faced percussion instrument, under the category of membranophone, is a process of environmental adaptation that uses a high level of creativity. This article is an important documentation in preserving the art of rebana mangkuk performance for future generations |
