Abstract:
Optimization of water soluble carbohydrates (WSCs) yields in water extracts from the roots of Jackiopsis ornata using microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) was investigated by a circumscribed central composite design (CCCD). MAE revealed to be an optimal technique for carbohydrate extraction. A maximum yield of 30.047±0.487% was achieved at the conditions of liquid to feed ratio (L = 30:1), particle size (P = 0.022±0.02 mm), temperature (T = 65C), microwave power (W = 300W) and irradiation duration (i = 20 min). The statistical analysis illustrated the suitability of the generated full quadratic and enhanced models to represent the experimental results with high values of the coefficient of determination (R2), adjusted coefficient of determination (R2adj) and predicted coefficient of determination (R2pred). The p-values of the lack of fit tests demonstrated the adequacies of these models. The optimized condition for the extraction procedure was predicted in Minitab 17. The conditions were L = 27:1, P = 0.029 mm, T = 47°C, W = 407W, i = 26 min with a predicted yield of 29.90%. The application of these optimal conditions led to maximizing the yield of WSCs to 32.024±1.114%.
