The COVID-19 pandemic had resulted in the introduction of the Movement Control Order 1.0 (MCO 1.0) in Malaysia. This specific situation puts people at risk of falling into the situational poverty. Therefore, this article will explain how the MCO 1.0 resulted in situational poverty in Malaysia. A quantitative approach was implemented and a survey design was used. Data were gathered in different ways by using Google Forms. Results indicated that groups who lost their jobs during and after the MCO 1.0 were either selfemployed, those who did not earn fixed wages, and those in the poor category, who were severely affected. Hence, they were pushed into situational poverty. Among the strategies that the government can use to overcome situational poverty, one in particular is the creation of opportunities for people to earn comprehensive incomes; furthermore, sustain and ease the chance for people to obtain second source of income.en_US
