Empowerment of Maahad Tahfiz in Kelantan Thru TVET@Tahfiz

Abstract

In Malaysia, the government's proposal to establish a comprehensive TVET plan to help the future workforce face the Fourth Industrial Revolution has recently received widespread attention with the emphasis on Technical and Vocational Education and Training ( TVET). One of the comprehensive TVET plans is to empower the education system at madrasah tahfiz by collaboration between KolejKomuniti and maahadtahfiz. This study examines how TVET@Tahfiz applies in Kelantan thru this collaboration, how the management of maahadtahfiz accepts the courses offer by KolejKomuniti, and how the interest from the students to learn TVET as their new subject that emphasis on skills. The empowerment education system thru TVET@Tahfiz enabling the students to gain the challenges at the workplace with the certificate of Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia and certificate as Huffaz from Darul Quran by JAKIM. The method using in this study is qualitatives by interviews the top management of KolejKomunitiKokLanas, KolejKomunitiPasir Mas, MaahadTahfizPubimas Al-Amin, and MaahadTahfiz Al-Quran DarulSaadah. Findings of this study indicate that Most of the maahadtahfiz in Kelantan are interested to make the collaboration with KolejKomuniti but some of them face the financial problem and logistic matter to handle their students during the TVET class that to be held at KolejKomuniti. Some of the management of maahadtahfiz have a limited fund because they only generate the revenue from student's fees and donations from society. The awareness to empower maahadtahfiz also has the feedback and action had been taken by Majlis Agama Islam Kelantan (MAIK) to apply TVET@Tahfiz. MAIK has played the role to help some of the maahadtahfiz by giving them raw material or financial support to learn skills in agricultural and animal husbandry.
