Abstract:
The dreadful health crisis Coronavirus (COVID 19), which started to spread around the world
early this year has led to major changes in the ways that people do things in their life. One of the
fields that has been severely affected is language education. In the sense that language teaching
and learning no matter what demand two-way interaction from students and teachers, this field is
seen as experiencing pretty much hurdles to be effectively accomplished during the pandemic.
Through an in-depth review of relevant research along with online sources, this paper (1) identifies
issues concerning language education at the time of Covid19 (2) discusses both the potentials and
constraints of online language learning and teaching during Covid19 outbreak and (3) proposes
practical ideas for future research in the related field. The findings show that Covid19, in fact, has
put language instructors and learners in a dilemma where blended or online learning is imperative
to be done. Language teaching and learning is reported to be more interactive as it is done online,
as learners can collaborate more actively using the medium. Nevertheless, the poor quality of
internet connection can be disruptive to the learning process that takes place. Suggestions for future
research studies to enhance the current knowledge and practices are provided as the conclusion.
